9 Reasons to Move to the East Bay
Welcome to The East Bay! Whether you are a new resident or a long-time resident looking for new adventures, this guide is for you. As a real estate agent, it’s my job to know what’s happening in our fair city, and I enjoy sharing my wealth of knowledge with others.
Warmer Weather: East Bay has a warm summer climate with an average of 260 sunny days per year. In general, the area features warm, dry summers, and mild, wet winters. The East Bay holds pretty true to the seasons, and you can observe #KarltheFog and all his majesty from a distance!
Open Spaces and Bike Trails: if you like to ride a mountain bike, Joaquin Miller Park has some of the best mountain biking in the East Bay with a wide variety of trails! There are Crockett Regional Park, Briones Regional Park, Tilden Regional Park, or The Bay Trail. Also, check out the recently finished bike path on the Richmond/San Rafael bridge giving those riders - with the stamina - to pedal all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge!
Berkeley Bowl and Berkeley Bowl West: One of the crown jewel supermarkets of Berkeley and the East Bay! They offer Kombucha on tap, local brands, The Best Produce, and a team of awesome butchers with quality meat and seafood! (I made friends with the head butcher at Berkeley Bowl West, and he trims up every brisket I buy to smoke.)
Shopping and Eating: Oakland offers amazing areas like Jack London Square, College Ave. in Rockridge, Temescal and Grand Lake to eat and shop! 4th Street in Berkeley has boutique stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and some of the best Compass real estate agents. Solano Ave in Albany has an intimate theater that features indie films and major motion pictures that you can catch before or after you get a bite to eat at one of the countless options. Also, you’ll find my favorite plant shop Flowerland for all your indoor or outdoor plant needs.
Coffee: Local roasters such as Highwire, Bicycle, and Red Bay Coffee are based in East Bay. Also, check out CoRo: A co-op with facilities equipped to (learn to) roast your own coffee, and they feature coffee from all around the world.
Farmers' Markets: There’s one going on almost every day of the week: Check out Saturday at Grand Lake, Sunday at Montclair (be sure to see the vendor who sells fresh oysters), or in Jack London Square.
Oakland First Friday: On the first Friday of every month in Oakland, they shut down the streets for a block party featuring amazing bands and pop-up restaurants, along with local restaurants! Great vibes!
More Parking: I have lived in San Francisco. I don’t have a stat to back this up, but trust me, there is more parking in the East Bay, guaranteed.
Schools: Top-rated schools in Alameda, Castro Valley, Berkeley, Albany, and more! East Bay has some of the best public schools in the Bay Area which can really cut down the cost of living if you were thinking about sending your kid to a private school in the city.
